Would M$ release 64-bit version of *ALL* the old WinXP drivers?

Device drivers
Hi Man-wai,
Microsoft does not write device drivers, that is up to the hardware vendor, the Windows Team only bundles a limited set of drivers with Windows. I am hoping to see a greater embrace of the 64-bit Windows platform with the release of Windows Vista. In the mean time, if you are experiencing hardware issues with Windows Vista x64, now is the best time to alert that hardware vendor. :) -- -- Andre Windows Connected | http://www.windowsconnected.com Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta

Will Micro$oft Vista supports all visible 64-bit devices then?
Definately a few - nobody can be 100% sure of what Microsoft will support, but normally they have hardware logo guidelines which are available on the web.

No, it is up to the Device manufacturer to support their devices and software if its non-Microsoft. -- Andre Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta FAQ for MS AntiSpy http://www.geocities.com/marfer_mvp/FAQ_MSantispy.htm

That means no guarantee... M$ being the bigger brother should take care of this, right?

MS is going to write 64 bit drivers for my Hauppauge USB TV tuner?
I don't think so. Why would they? It's not from MS. It's not their product. MS didn't develop it, Hauppauge did. It's up to Hauppauge to supply 64 bit compatible drivers. Where in the world did you ever come up with the ridiculous idea that MS (or M$ as you prefer) is responsible for providing 64 bit drivers for non-MS products. Give me a break! Frank

Because M$ bundled drivers with its OS. M$ aren't managing the driver business, then no driver should be included in their OS and the customers to choose what driver to install.

Also, why M$ certified drivers if they were none of M$' business?

Doesn't microsoft ship default drivers with windows 9x and xp or did they stop that with vista?

You need to do more research on exactly what an MS certified driver is
because it's apparent from your postings you have the wrong idea. Frank

I have upgraded my Win XP to Vista and my audio, dvd, and touchpad devices are unable to load. Tried reinstalling the device drivers, uninstalling and reinstalling etc etc and nothing works to solve the problems. Any ideas? Would it work better if instead of upgrading I made a clean install from scratch?
Do a clean install, upgrades have always caused problems.

Does anyone KNOW, or have a link that talks about how/which driver models were changed for Vista?
I know that the graphics model was changed to WDDM(yet some people have been able to run standard XP drivers)
On my machine, I am controlling my ATI TvTuner card(working in Vista Media Center) with XP64 drivers. I am using the XP 64 version of Intellimouse and Intellipoint for my mouse/kb. I am using the beta Vista drivers for my nForce MB, nVidia geforce card, and Creative SoundBlaster Audigy 2ZS
I have a LinkSys network card - LNE100TX - EtherFast® 10/100 LAN Card - which work fine under Windows XP, but when I try to use the same card in Vista Beta 2 (same PC, using dual boot), the new OS claims that driver files are missing and fails to install the card driver although both OSs have access to the same XP drivers. Have downloaded the most recent drivers form Linksys, but again the NIC drivers just will not install in beta 2.
Interestingly, this is exactly the same problem I have with a Belkin USB wireless adapter - Vista claims the driver cannot be installed. Sad really as I just drilled a hole in the wall to feed a network cable through from the router thinking that, if anything should work, it would be the network card.
Any help with NIC driver installation would be gratefully received.
Thanks, Jonathan -- Jonathan S
Hi
I have this exact same problem with my inexQ usb wireless, I have the drivers there every file is ok and installs on Windows XP yet Vista finds the drivers but when it comes to actually installing them it claims the File Specified Cannot Be Found. Any help on this would be very appreciated as I do not wish to drill a hole through half my house in order to recieve internet.
Many Thanks Rich

I did a quick "Google" search using the model number of your NIC and the word "vista" and the first item on the page was this:

It may help you.
